Renowned for its tree-climbing lions, large hippo populations, and striking flamingo displays, Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s most diverse and scenic wildlife destinations. Set within the Great Rift Valley, the shallow alkaline lake is sustained by underground springs and streams flowing from the Ngorongoro Highlands, allowing life to flourish year-round. The park is a haven for birdlife, with Lesser and Greater Flamingos, pelicans, storks, herons, and numerous birds of prey, as well as over 180 species of butterflies. Its varied habitats also support elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, baboons, and an impressive range of carnivores including lions, leopards, hyenas, servals, and jackals.

Due to heavier rains in recent years, portions of the park have experienced seasonal flooding, so we’ve crafted an itinerary that showcases the most rewarding and accessible areas. Your day begins with a peaceful canoe ride on Lake Manyara, offering picturesque views and intimate wildlife sightings along the shoreline. Next, enjoy a treetop walkway that lifts you into the forest canopy for a unique perspective of the ecosystem. After lunch, you’ll conclude with a game drive through accessible sections of the park, maximizing your chances to see both wildlife and dramatic landscapes. You may choose to add either or both the canoe ride and treetop walk to customize your Lake Manyara experience.
